Professional Summary: Road User Perception Survey (RUPS), KSTP (2013-2014)
Conducted as part of the Kerala State Transport Project Phase-II, the RUPS aims to capture road user perceptions ahead of project implementation. Funded by the World Bank, it emphasizes the voices of vulnerable road users (VRUs).
The survey utilized a participatory approach, engaging local youth as enumerators to gather authentic feedback from over 2,100 pedestrians and vehicle users. This grassroots involvement fostered community ownership and trust.
Advanced technologies were employed, including Computer-Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI) using Tablets, ensuring efficient data gathering and verification. A multi-faceted data collection process enhanced the reliability of survey results.
A scientific index system was established for assessing VRUs’ perceptions of road improvement, providing a structured means to measure satisfaction and identify aspirations.
The project emphasized collaboration through stakeholder analysis, facilitating a robust understanding of community needs and driving the development of local road safety strategies.
Innovative approaches to data visualization were implemented, ensuring that findings were not only informative but also engaging and persuasive. This made complex data accessible to various stakeholders.
Led by Mr. Shabeer Mohammed, the project team included a mix of experts such as statisticians, data specialists, and communication professionals, ensuring a comprehensive approach to road safety challenges.
The total contract value was USD 0.053 million, fully disbursed to the consulting firm, illustrating efficient financial management within the project framework.
The RUPS served as a foundational tool in driving evidence-based road safety initiatives in Kerala, aligning community aspirations with developmental objectives and enhancing overall transport safety outcomes.
